D2R Horadric Cube Recipes — Complete Guide (Patch 3.2 2026)

The Horadric Cube is one of the most powerful tools in Diablo II: Resurrected. From upgrading runes and gems to crafting powerful items and opening secret portals, the Cube does it all. This is the complete recipe list updated for Patch 3.2 Season 14.

What Is the Horadric Cube?

The Horadric Cube is a quest item you find in Act 2 at the Halls of the Dead (Level 3) during the Horadric Staff quest. Once you have it, it stays with you for the entire game. You can only carry one per character.

The Cube has two main functions:

Storage — It provides a 4x3 internal grid (12 slots) while only taking up 2x2 (4 slots) in your inventory. That's 8 free slots of extra storage.
Transmutation — Place the correct combination of items inside and press Transmute to create something new.

How to use it: Right-click the Cube to open it. Drag items into the Cube grid. Click Transmute. The result replaces the ingredients.

Warning: Transmutation is permanent. Always double-check your recipe before clicking Transmute. You cannot undo it.

Gem Upgrade Recipes

Three gems of the same type and quality combine into one gem of the next quality level. Gems are used in socketing, crafting, and rune upgrade recipes.

Tip: Perfect Gems are used in high-end crafting recipes. Hoard them — especially Perfect Topazes (for magic find socketing into Shako), Perfect Amethysts (rune upgrades), and Perfect Sapphires (rune upgrades).

Rune Upgrade Recipes

Runes can be upgraded using the cube. Each recipe requires 2 runes of the same type plus a specific gem. This is your backup plan when you cannot trade for a rune you need.

Important: Trading is almost always more efficient than cubing. Two Sur runes traded individually may fetch more value than one Ber. Check trade values before cubing high runes.

Socketing Recipes

These recipes add sockets to items. Useful for creating runeword bases or adding gem slots to gear you already own.

Warning: The number of sockets added is random (within item limits). Use the Larzuk Quest reward from Act 5 Quest 1 for guaranteed maximum sockets on important items like Mage Plate for Enigma.

Remember: These recipes only work on Normal quality (white or grey) items. Magic, Rare, Set, or Unique items cannot have sockets added this way.

Socket Removal Recipe

To remove gems, runes, or jewels from a socketed item without destroying the item:

Respec Recipe — Token of Absolution

After using your three free respecs from the Den of Evil quest, this is the only way to respec your character's skills and stats. Each act boss on Hell difficulty drops one essence.

Horadric Staff (Act 2 Quest)

Uber Tristram Recipes

These recipes open portals to the three Pandemonium areas where Uber bosses drop organs. Collect all three organs to access Uber Tristram and fight for the Hellfire Torch.

Important: These recipes only work in Harrogath (Act 5 town) on Hell difficulty in multiplayer on Battle.net realms. They do not work in single player.

Crafting Recipes

Crafting creates powerful items with a guaranteed set of modifiers plus random affixes. The Item Level (ilvl) of the ingredients is crucial — higher ilvl ingredients create higher level results with better possible affixes.

All crafting recipes follow this formula: Magic Item (specific base) + specific Rune + Perfect Gem + any Jewel = Crafted Item

Important: Each crafting type requires a specific base item type — not just any item of that slot. For example, Blood Gloves require Heavy Gloves / Sharkskin Gloves / Vampirebone Gloves. Using the wrong base will not work.

Crafting tip: For best results use a high level character (level 93+) with high ilvl ingredients from Hell difficulty. The ilvl formula is: (ilvl of Magic item ÷ 2) + (character level ÷ 2). Higher ilvl = better and more possible affixes. The Caster Amulet with +2 to class skills, 20% FCR, life, and resistances is the most valuable crafted item in the game — worth more than Mara's Kaleidoscope when perfectly rolled.
